The greatest challenge of nurturing daughters into womanhood is the infinite number of choices young girls and young women have for creating a life of purpose and living out her passion.

Choice is not a bad thing. And it most definitely better than having no choices.

At the same time, choice, and alternatives require planning, responsibility and a good does of honesty with realistic views.

Choice means just what it says. You have the opportunity to choose. Yet American culture continually tells us that we can have it all.

No one person can have it all. And yet there is something for everyone.

As the mother of a 21st century daughter we must remind our daughters not to make the same mistakes as men. Learn from them.

You cannot have everything. And you do not need everything to achieve happiness.

And yet, you can most definitely lose and destroy all you have in the vain attempt to grasp everything.

A dose of honesty and a realistic perspective help here. Girls need to know that the achievements for women ascertained by the feminist movement do not require a girl or young woman to over extend herself.

More, now than ever we must encourage and sustain our daughters in listening to their hearts. We must help them identify the still, small voice inside them that holds the inner wisdom they have carried with them through the ages and various lifetimes.

We must assist them in hearing the beat of their heart, and allowing its rhythm help them devise the tune by which they will live their lives.

To achieve this we, their mothers must look at ourselves.

  1. Amen!! What more can I say? You’ve said it all. It’s a matter of learning from others mistakes rather than trying to reinvent the world. Every woman has to decide what’s best for her. We are all individuals. No one lifestyle fits all women. We’ve got to stop trying to have it all. Just create a life that fits you and makes you happy.
