Much like the gods and goddesses of Hinduism and Yoruban spirituality reflect the forces of the human mind and heart, archetypes display aspects and dimensions of character and personality.
They show the various degrees of evolution of the human soul from birth to death.
The story of the heroine or hero‘s journey is that of the protagonist encountering the various archetypes, dimensions of the major character’s mind and body, soul and spirit.
Through engagement with supporting characters that wear the masks of the various archetypes, aspects of the protagonist’s self, she or he gains knowledge and wisdom, the integration of which enables her or him to achieve their goal.
While the heroine/hero seeks to attain a specific goal that is best represented in physical form she or he searches, albeit unconsciously, to answer questions that have plagued humankind throughout time immemorial.
Why am I here?
Where did I come from?
What is the meaning of this life?
Where am I going?
What is my purpose on earth?
How can I bring meaning to my life?
What will happen when I die?
What is death like?
Where do I go in the afterlife?
What is love? Why do I crave it?
Why does love frighten me so?
These are but a few of the questions to which humanity has sought answers in the form of stories and myths.
Each time we set out to craft a story, we attempt to answer a question of the human heart and mind.
What are some of the questions you have about life?
What stories have you have read or have written that sought to answer various questions on life?
