Sunday writing…

I see why so many people never finish books.

It takes perseverance to write, and to keep at it.

Today was Sunday and I wanted to take my youngest out. I try to spend an afternoon once a week with each of my children.

With 3 children that can be tough, particularly when all three are in school.

My children are in grade school, high school and graduate school. I love spending time with them.

Then there is my husband. I want to spend time with him. I love him very much.

Without him as my lover, soulmate, friend, confidante and all-around wonderful father and person, I doubt if I would be writing, certainly not any thing of consequence.

After whipping down a blog that will need revising, I spent the afternoon out with my gradeschooler and then returned home to write on my novel for NaNoWriMo.

Three hours later I am now finished.

But I promised myself to write on this blog, the writing life.

I want to chronicle my experience during NaNoWriMo.

It’s hard this business of writing, staying true to yourself, your dreams and your commitments to myself, and your writing.

So much of my writing is me. And I am my writing.

The writer’s dilemma.

And so it goes…

As a working wife, mother of 2 young children, who also has extra curricular activities, I’ve certainly felt these same emotions. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Sorry it’s taken so long for me to respond. Life’s been a little tight and crazy as I’ve been trying to do NaNoWriMo while also helping my children with school projects as I attend to the usual things us Mommies see too.

I will be posting at this site more regularly, at least for the next two or three weeks while my main website http://www.anjuellefloyd.com will be undergoing maintenance.

As for your comment, I can certainly relate.
It is extremely hard as a wife and mother to devote time to our writing. Whether we have a job outside or inside the home, the struggle remains.
And yet it is the friction caused by the this challenge that serves as grist for the mill encouraging me to write my stories, and also fueling the context and conflicts within the stories that I write.
I write about husbands and wives who, in making the choice to remain committed, accept the journey each spouse must make inward, in the effort to be a more affectionate husband, wife, an improved and more loving father and mother, son and daughter, a more loyal brother and sister, better person.

    Thanks so much for sharing.
