Why Do I Write and What Is My Process? | Paulette Harper

When I decided to pursue my writing career, I knew of no other author who could guide me through the process.

Those I expressed my aspirations with looked at me with disbelief.

Although, they may not have openly questioned my goals, I knew in the back of their minds they questioned my success.

It was the kind of disbelief that whispered  “oh yeah, we’ve heard that before!” I never allowed their disbelief to influence the direction I believed God was taking me.

I wasn’t sure where I was going or even how to being such a journey, but one thing I knew: I knew God. I had absolute confidence in the character of God, that if God had put the desire to write within me, He would definitely give me whatever tools necessary to fulfill those very same desires.

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalms 37:4)

My story is different from many writers; I didn’t grow up with the aspiration to become a professional writer. On the contrary, I just wanted to get married, have children, and do the work of God.

As a child, I didn’t know anything about becoming a celebrity. I knew just enough to realize that those on TV and radio did something to impact lives.

The common bond the celebrities shared was that they knew how to connect with people; they had something people wanted, and they knew how to reach the people to meet their needs.

When God spoke to my heart about writing, I knew He wanted me to write inspirational booksbooks that encouraged, motivated and led readers towards a closer walk with Him. With that being my vision, my writing career began.

People are sometimes amazed at my writing process. I don’t do much journaling but I can sit at the computer and God will begin to download things for me to write.

I get the chapter titles and build the chapters around the title.

I have such a passion and love for writing. Writing has become an important part of my life’s journey. When the words are flowing and my mind is focused on my project I can sit for hours writing the things that have been impressed upon my heart.

Because I have a desire to see other aspiring writers dream come to reality, I’ve created Write Now, literary workshops.

These workshops are designed to coach aspiring writers in the areas of creativity, development and publication of Christian books.

God has given me a desire for writers especially those who want to write for the Lord.

Through these workshops it is my aspiration to provide information that will help aspiring writers dream come to reality, by providing tools, resources and opportunities to help them succeed.

I have authored such books as That Was Then, This Is Now: This Broken Vessel Restored. That Was Then, This Is Now, achieved national recognition, becoming a finalist in the 2009 Next Generation Indie Book Award. Moreover, it ranked consecutively on the Black Christian Publishers Bestsellers List for Independent Publishers (non-fiction category) and my newest release Completely Whole. I am the co-author of Victorious Living for Women. My next book For Such a Time as This will be released in 2011 in addition to Victorious Living for Moms.
